In the fast-paced landscape of New York City, true leadership as shown by Council Member Farah Louis isn’t just about managing the present; it’s about architecting the future. This week, I had the privilege of joining Council Member Farah Louis (District 45) at The Meyer Levin School for the Performing Arts (I.S. 285) for a historic event: the inauguration of the school’s first-ever Student Government Association (SGA).
As a Brand Marketing Strategist, I am constantly analyzing how institutions build “brand equity” with their target audiences. What I witnessed at Meyer Levin was a masterclass in civic branding and community investment.
Validating the Vision: A Multi-Generational Dialogue
The ceremony was far more than a school assembly—it was a formal validation of the students’ voices by some of the most influential figures in New York City government. The lineup of attendees spoke volumes about the strategic importance of this initiative:
- Council Member Farah Louis, who administered the oath of office.
- NYC Public Advocate Jumaane Williams.
- NYC Comptroller Mark Levine.
- Jahmila Edwards, Director of InterGovernmental Affairs for the Mayor’s Office.
By bringing these citywide leaders into the Meyer Levin auditorium, Council Member Louis and Principal Jamie Hendrickson transformed a school election into a high-level networking and mentorship opportunity. For these students, the “brand” of local government became accessible, tangible, and aspirational.

A Milestone for Central Brooklyn: The First Woman Mayor
One of the most powerful moments of the day was the inauguration of Victoria Mompoint as Meyer Levin’s first-ever woman Mayor. In a city—and a world—where we are still pushing for gender parity in high office, Meyer Levin’s students are already leading the way.
This historic win, along with the election of Public Advocate Taliah Scott and Comptroller Britney Simeon, demonstrates a shift in the local leadership pipeline. These young women are not just learning about power; they are exercising it.
The Inaugural Meyer Levin SGA Administration
The professionalism and resilience shown by these newly elected officials were remarkable. They built platforms, engaged their peers, and won the trust of their community:
- Mayor: Victoria Mompoint
- Public Advocate: Taliah Scott
- Comptroller: Britney Simeon
- Borough Presidents: Aubrey Anderson (6th), Chloe Cousins (7th), Maleah Malone (8th)
- Deputy Borough Presidents: Elijah Cunningham & Chelsea Toussaint
Strategic Partnership and Community Advocacy
At Heru Vision Consulting, we believe that the strength of any brand lies in its commitment to the next generation.
The Brooklyn Advisory Group’s support for this program highlights a critical strategic takeaway: Advocacy is a thought partnership. By validating the work being done at the local level, Council Member Louis and her colleagues are ensuring that Meyer Levin remains a beacon of excellence in academia and the performing arts.
The future of New York City isn’t coming—it’s already here, and it is in excellent hand.

It’s all about the community and the youth development. Great job
