Every year on May 18th, Haitians around the globe pause to honor our history, our pride, and the enduring symbol of our independence: the Haitian flag Day. Here in Brooklyn, on May 17, 2026, was more than just a date on the calendar—it was a powerful gathering of culture, unity, and forward-looking action.

As the Executive Director of Sak Pase Nation, I have had the privilege of operating and leading our organization with a core mission: to promote Haitian culture while uplifting and advocating for the Haitian Diaspora—especially our youth.

A Celebration of Culture and Community

The streets of Brooklyn came alive with music, vibrant traditional wear, and joyful performances. Children took center stage during the festivities, dancing and showcasing cultural pride in traditional costumes topped with red, white, and blue feathered headpieces. Seeing the smiles and energy of the kids performing in front of a community stage exemplified why we do this work: to ensure our heritage is passed down with pride and dignity.

Investing in Our Youth and Future Infrastructure

While celebrating our roots is essential, Sak Pase Nation’s commitment goes beyond an annual parade or street festival. We recognize that true empowerment requires sustainable support systems. Our primary target is building the necessary community infrastructure that fosters long-term youth development.

We are actively designing comprehensive programs focused on:

  • Youth Development & Cultural Pride: Engaging children in performing arts, historical education, and leadership activities.
  • Community Engagement & Social Movements: Creating safe, collaborative spaces that bring families together to address social issues affecting the Diaspora.
  • Economic Education & Business Growth: Teaching practical financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and business skills to prepare young people to navigate and succeed in modern economic landscapes.
  • Educational Access: Expanding educational resources and mentorship networks to support academic success for Haitian-American students.

Looking Ahead

The 2026 Haitian Flag Day celebration showcased the vibrant spirit of Brooklyn’s Haitian community. But more importantly, it served as a launchpad for our ongoing social movement.

At Sak Pase Nation, we believe that when we invest in our youth’s education, cultural literacy, and financial future, we build a foundation that elevates the entire community. We invite community leaders, parents, local businesses, and allies to join us as we continue building programs that transform lives and secure a brighter future for generations to come.
